Buying Guide:  Longer extension cords mean that lower voltage is being supplied to the power tool.  When low voltage occurs it doesn't allow the tool to run at full power which leads to:
  • Tool overheats and damages itself
  • Cord ends sieve and melt together
  • Heat build-up also:
    • increases amp draw
    • which overloads the circuit and breaker's trip.

To offset voltage drop and prevent heat buildup, choose extension cords with a larger diameter wire size (i.e. 10 gauge).  The following chart is provided as a guideline.
